December's Curriculum

Hey everyone! It seems that our December person was unable to make the curriculum right now so I wanted to check in and see what everyone wanted to do.

I was thinking that maybe we could each agree to make a post this month about a Christmas learning activity we did. We can choose a book, a nursery rhyme/song, and one craft and post about it (with pictures of our kids doing it). What do you think?

  1. That sounds reasonable. This is such a busy season, maybe just a few activities a week would be most appropriate anyways. I'd love some ideas for fun ornaments for the kids to make. Our tree has some bare spots!

  2. I'll try to get something up today or tomorrow. :)

  3. Oh, ornaments are a great idea! And you're right that in this busy season a few simpler crafts might be more appropriate anyway.

I'll work on finding and doing a craft today so long as Peter lets me have a moment :)

  4. I did a "M" for Merry Christmas craft yesterday. All I did was cut out a "M" and let her stick christmas stickers on it. It was easy and she had fun!

  5. I'll see what I can find for 1-2 days next week. When should we expect to see an activity for this week posted?

  6. Um, not sure when, whenever somebody posts something? lol!

We're currently on the hunt for pinecones to make christmas ornaments. Wish us luck digging in the snow! I'll post pics and instructions as soon as I can.

  7. are we on letter 'm'???

if so, there is a cute kid's book "If you take a mouse to the movie". Maybe we could read that book and make a mouse using 'M'? Not sure what the mouse could look like...I'm good at thinking of ideas but not so good at creating them. lol!

  8. Manda, I didn't know if yall would be ok for me to copy and paste the entire activity from my blog onto a post here, so I'll just include it as a comment.

If anyone wants a quick activity to do with things you already have at home...
Here's the What's in the Stocking Game I just played with Caleb: http://engagingtoddleractivities.wordpress.com/2010/12/11/homemade-game-whats-in-the-stocking/

We also made Christmas Tree cards

We also did a fun activity with the goal of teaching Jesus is the Light of the World, helping a 2 year old grasp a bit of what that means. I'll be posting that one soon. I can include it here if you'd like too.
